Picnic Areas

Home to ancient forests, unique sea life, isolated inlets and untamed coastline, the Croajingalong National Park is the place to go for a day out in nature. The park offers a wide variety of picnic and BBQ areas around the shores of the Mallacoota Inlet.

If you’re lucky you’ll get one of the below picnic spots to yourself. These picnic areas vary in amenity and with a short supply of gas BBQs.

Please clean what you use and leave no rubbish behind.

Captains Creek

Captains Creek Day Visitor Area is a charming spot to stop for a picnic or BBQ. A short drive from central Mallacoota, the picnic and barbeque areas are located on the banks of the Mallacoota Inlet.

Simply follow Captain Creek Track to reach the secluded picnic spot on foot. Alternatively, canoe, kayak or boat in.

BBQ and toilet facilities are currently NOT available on site and the Jetty was damaged in the fires. Table still available for use.

Cemetery Bight

Set on the banks of Mallacoota Inlet, Cemetery Bight is a cosy day visitor area, perfect for a picnic and a family cookout. Walk to the Spotted Dog Mine, and take a stroll around the Old Pioneer Cemetery, where several early pioneers of the district are buried.

Jetty and toilets facilities are available on site.

Cape Horn

Tucked in the northern shores of the Mallacoota Inlet, Cape Horn is a secluded picnic spot dotted with a sandy beach and a jetty. Visitors can go for a swim, hang out by the jetty, and settle for a day of fishing and barbequing.

Reach Cape Horn by water, or by four-wheel-drive via Wallagaraugh Rd, Fairhaven Link Trk, and Cape Horn Trk -about a 1-hour drive from Mallacoota.

BBQ and toilet facilities are available on site.

Goanna bay

Discover a hidden gem within the serene waters of the Mallacoota Inlet! Secluded under the shade of native trees, and a preferred patch of wilderness for Lyrebirds and Lace Monitors, Goanna Bay is an unspoiled place for a picnic or a barbeque. Go for a dip, bask under the sun, and enjoy one of Mallacoota’s best-kept secrets.

Goanna bay can be reached only by boat, canoe, and kayak.

Genoa River Firetrail

When heading toward the northern sections of the Mallacoota Inlet, make time for an unspoilt family lunch surrounded by thick Red Ironbark trees forest.

With easy road access via the Mallacoota Genoa Rd, the Genoa River Firetrail picnic area is a great stop for visitors travelling through the Croajingolong National Park.

Jetty and BBQ facilities available.

Kingfish Point

Located along the central shores of the Mallacoota Inlet, Kingfish Point is the ideal picnic spot for those looking for top views! Glancing over Goodwin Sands and the Mallacoota township, the tranquil setting of this picnic area, plus its sandy beach, are a picture-perfect getaway for travellers.

Access only by canoe, boat, and kayak.

Jetty and BBQ facilities available.

Narrows Jetty

Enjoy the solitude of the Mallacoota Inlet in full! The Narrows Picnic Area is a lunch and barbeque spot accessible only by kayak, canoe, or boat. Tucked away along a narrow cove, this secret spot lies between the Top and Bottom Lakes, just off an arm of the Wallagaraugh River.

Jetty and BBQ facilities available.

Shipwreck Creek Picnic

Both a campground and a day visitors area, this small campground counts with only a few overnight spots and must be pre-booked for night stays.

Tables for a picnic available, BBQs (wood-fired) at campsites and toilets are all available here.

Allan Head

The Allan Head Picnic area sits on a small cape on the Eastern shores of the Mallacoota Inlet. A perfect excuse to go for a drive across lush nature or a kayak along the inlet, this is a popular family outing.

As the starting point to explore Cemetery Bight and the Spotted Dog Mine -a remanent from the gold rush years- Allan Head welcomes visitors with a grassy knoll, barbeques, tables and toilets.

Gravelly Point

Gravelly Point, in the lower section of the Top Lake, is surrounded by Giant Honey Myrtle Trees, attracting native nectar-eating birds when in bloom. Park your kayak, canoe or boat by the sheltered jetty and enjoy a scenic picnic or barbecue. Sunbathe at the sandy beach and connect with the Mallacoota Inlet wildlife and serene beauty.

There’s no road access to Gravelly Point, so prepare to go for a paddle!

Sou-west Arm

A barbeque and picnic area with road access in the vicinity of Mallacoota, a visit to Sou-west Arm is an easy and quick trip for families and friends!

Situated only 11 km northwest of Mallacoota township, this small, secluded picnic area is a peaceful haven for visitors keen to enjoy an effortless, yet stunning, day out.

Barbeque, jetty and toilet facilities available on site.

Sandy Point

Sitting on the shore of the Top Lake with easy road access, well-equipped picnic facilities, and an open beach, Sandy Point is a superb escape into nature. Go swimming, fishing, kayaking and get ready to enjoy a grand cookout with family and friends!

There is no jetty access at Sandy Point. To get there drive on Genoa Rd along a short gravel road.

Picnic tables, barbeques and toilets are available on site.

Betka Picnic Area

Only a 6-minutes drive from Mallacoota town, Betka Beach is a short stroll from the car park. Offering a grassy area equipped with gas barbeques and picnic tables, this is a top choice for families with kids and teens.

Toddlers can go for a dip safely at the beach lagoon. The rest of the crew can go for a surf, or simply chill by the sea. This is also a great swimming spot -not patrolled.

Mallacoota Lions Park

Visitors keen to hang out around Mallacoota township, head to the Lion’s Park for some picnic and barbeque fun.

Find the covered gas barbeques and eating area behind the main row of shops on Maurice Ave. With the kids’ playground and a skatepark just one minute away, entertainment for the whole family is guaranteed!
